Mustang Bayou Farms

Welcome to Mustang Bayou Farms where keeping true to the Black Spanish Goat breed is our passion. We are a growing goat farm located in Alvin, Texas. Family owned and operated by Jim and Kara Wilson. We breed and raise Spanish Goats, Nigerian Dwarf Milk Goats, Great Pyrenees Livestock Guardian Dogs and Delaware Chickens.

The Mustang Bayou Farms was established in 2010. We started out as a place for our horses and slowly evolved into the goat farm we are today. Our first goats were purchased because of our farm needs to control brush, weeds, blackberry vines, poison oak, poison ivy and poison sumac. We fell in love with the
Black Spanish Goats. We found and purchased several nannies and a buck in Tyler, Texas that came directly out of the Syfan Bloodline. Several months later we made the drive to West Texas and bought 60 Black Spanish Nanny Kids directly off the Koy Ranch, from our friend and fellow breeder Koy Adcock. We had an amazing visit with her and her ranch manager Tino. The stay there was much to short and we look forward to returning there to pick up more does this summer. Our goal in the goat business is to breed towards a hardy, healthier, taller but wider black spanish goat with thick cashmere coats, good conformation, perfect horn placement, mothering ability and parasite resistant.

As a growing farm just starting out, we ran into our fair share of difficulties. One being our constant need for better fencing skills. Seems there is no perfect fence to hold a goat, unless you dig a mote around it. Well we didn't dig a mote, but we did teach our goats to respect the electric fence. Another interesting fact about goats, they can and will climb. We discovered this by returning to the barn one morning and our goats had climbed up some old tin to the roof. It was the funniest thing to see goats dancing and jumping on a barn roof top, not so much fun to repair the damage. They even will climb your tallest tree with ease. We know cause there isn't a tree on our property we haven't found them in. They are not to be under estimated! We are always learning and growing in this business. We hear so many similar stories such as these, that we have shared. Take the time to look around and enjoy our website. Email or call us if you have any questions.
